Avin Persad-Ford’s practice encompasses both civil litigation and criminal defence, with a particular focus on advocacy. Avin has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including several regulatory tribunals. In civil litigation, Avin has represented clients in matters involving employment (both employer- and employee-side), real estate, professional regulation of teachers, lawyers, and horse trainers, civil fraud, contractual disputes, and complex commercial issues. On the criminal side, Avin has experience defending clients against charges such as harassment, sexual assault, fraud, procurement of a minor, obstruction of justice, drug possession, DUI, and dangerous driving. Avin also has experience representing individuals facing allegations under the Provincial Offences Act and children facing charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Avin is currently enrolled in the University of Waterloo’s Master of Taxation program and Part 3 of CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program to broaden his expertise in tax litigation.
With a background in accountancy, Avin is adept at understanding complex financial matters related to cases. Avin holds degrees in commerce, forensic accountancy, and international tax law.
In addition to being a licensed lawyer in Ontario, Avin also holds certifications as a Certified Executor Advisor, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and a Certified Forensic Investigator. Avin can assist with workplace, regulatory, or criminal investigations and pursue such matters on behalf of clients.
